THE DIONISIUS A. AGIUS BOOK PRIZE 2017

The Society for the Medieval Mediterranean offers the Dionisius A. Agius Prize biennially for a distinguished first book in the field of Medieval Mediterranean Studies.

To be eligible for consideration for the prize, the book must:

1.     Be on a subject related to the history, society or culture of the Medieval  Mediterranean, covering any aspect of Mediterranean societies and cultures from the fifth to the fifteenth centuries AD;

2.     Be its author’s first solely written book;

3.     Be published in English;

4.     Books with an imprint of 2015 or 2016 will be eligible for the 2017 award.

Winners will receive a prize of £700, together with publicity in both the journal and on the Society’s website.

The publisher or the author should present an entry form for each book submitted, together with one copy of the eligible book by the end of March 2017. Entries will not be returned. Should the book be short-listed, two further copies will be requested.

The prize winner will be announced at the Society’s conference to be held at the University of Ghent in July 2017.

THE Al-MASĀQ PRIZE 2017

The Society for the Medieval Mediterranean offers the Al-Masāq Prize biennially for the best article published in the journal Al-Masāq. To be eligible for consideration in a particular year, articles must have been published in the journal during the previous two years.

Winners will receive a prize of £100 in book vouchers from the journal’s publisher, Taylor & Francis, together with publicity in both the journal and on the Society’s website.

The prize winner will be announced at the Society’s conference to be held at Ghent University in July 2017.


Conference information

We host a biennial conference which brings together scholars from a range of disciplines to present and discuss their work, thus providing a forum for the exchange of ideas on the Medieval Mediterranean. Our next conference will be held at Ghent University from 10th-12th July 2017.
